The Pour Over Coffee Method
Background
In this example, learners view a walkthrough demonstration on preparing a cup of pour-over coffee. This video-based digital learning experience is designed to enhance a learner’s general knowledge about various coffee brewing techniques. It can serve as a key component within a blended learning solution or be offered as a standalone resource.
Throughout the demonstration, learners view the entire pour-over coffee brewing process from start to finish. They are provided background information, introduced to brewing equipment, and then they view each step in sequential order.
The setup for this demonstration involves two 6K-quality HD video cameras. They are positioned to capture the scene during the initial takes of the process, from both wide and medium-shot perspectives. One of the cameras is then repositioned to capture the same sequence of actions from a closer view, and is positioned overhead. Based on this demonstration, the overhead shot captures the gooseneck kettle as it initially saturates the coffee filter, then as the host performs a series of pour-overs to complete the brewing process. Each step of the sequence is meticulously planned, practiced, and then captured on camera as the pour-over process is demonstrated.
